Trouble for men’s team

The men’s basketball team has yet to play a game this season, and already it is starting in a hole.

Guard Michael Nurse, counted on to provide a scoring punch from the outside, was arrested on Sunday for public urination and harassing a police officer.

For these offenses, Nurse will be held out of action for the Cyclone shoot-out and the opening exhibition game against an Estonian team on Nov. 12.

“It was disappointing,” Coach Larry Eustachy said. “That type of behavior is not what this program wants to represent.”

Although he will be held out of the scrimmage and exhibition game, Nurse is practicing with the team and will sit on the bench for those games.

Also this week, freshman Anthony Lloyd left the team. The Perris, Calif., native has enrolled in Los Angeles Valley (Calif.). Community College.

“Anthony never felt comfortable here academically or athletically,” Eustachy said. “After talking with his family, it was mutually agreed that it would be in his best interest to transfer to a school closer to home.”

Rodney Hampton rounds out the list of struggling Cyclones, as he recently was a no-show at a court date, which earned him an arrest.

He also will be suspended for the Cyclone Shoot-out and the first exhibition game.

“Behavior such as Rodney’s will not be tolerated by this basketball staff. We do not want these actions to be representative of our program. Members of the Iowa State men’s basketball team are accountable for their actions,” Eustachy said.

The Cyclones men’s and women’s teams will be on display for fans at the Cyclone Shoot-out, which will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Hilton Coliseum.
