The Republicans claim that low income taxes lead to high growth, but a quick look at California shows that isn’t true. California is the fastest growing state in the country, and the leader in high technology, but its top income tax rate is 9.3 percent.

In contrast, Iowa’s top tax bracket is 6.5 percent. My family and I just moved here from California and our primary reason was not taxes. We came here for Iowa’s great schools and community atmosphere.

This summer, I talked with two other families who moved back to Iowa for the exact same reasons.

I’m convinced that Lightfoot’s plan for tax cuts and tuition credits will gut our public schools and destroy Iowa’s main advantage over the rest of the nation.
