Studying abroad is an opportunity to learn about another culture and gain college credit. A trip to Beijing, China is one of the destinations students can choose to enhance their knowledge of the world.

The trip to Beijing is being sponsored by the College of Agriculture and the Cargill company, and 25 students will be chosen for the trip from a list of applicants.

Eduarda Becerra, program assistant for International Agriculture Programs said past participants have enjoyed the trip.

“After classes, students are more on their own to move around,” Becerra said.

Once students are chosen for the trip, Cargill pays their airfare to China, and once in Beijing, students will stay in apartments on campus for the duration of the trip.

During their five weeks in Beijing, students will attend the Chinese Academy of Agriculture Science where they will study economics, agriculture reform and history classes. Becerra said students also will receive college credit for the classes they take.

Kim Hannum, junior in agricultural business, will be going on her second study abroad trip with the program.

“Speaking from experience, this trip will change your outlook on the world,” Hannum said. “Not being required to take a lot of classes allows the opportunity for students to experience another culture.”

Hannum also said the people who go on the trip come from a variety of studies, not just agriculture.

The trip lasts from May 11 until June 22. Applications can be picked up at Room 18 of Curtiss Hall and are due by Dec. 1.
