Breakin’ the law (again): Liam Gallagher and O.D.B.

Vic Chesnutt’s sixth CD, his first on Capricorn Records, hit stores Tuesday. “The Salesman and Bernadette” features backing band Lambchop and a guest appearance by Emmylou Harris, reported Neil Chrisley of Rocktropolis.

Chesnutt, who called Capitol Records home until a few months ago, joins fellow Athens, Ga. natives, Widespread Panic on Capricorn.

In other southern-fried rock news, the Black Crowes marked Jan. 12 as the release date for its fifth album.

“By Your Side” was supposed to arrive this month, but got pushed back due to the “breaking in” of two new members, bassist Sven Pipien and road guitarist Audley Freed, MTV news reported.

On Nov. 3, EMI/Capitol released a box set of nearly 100 previously-unreleased John Lennon solo recordings.

“Wonsaponatime: the John Lennon Anthology” contains 4 discs — “Ascot,” “New York City,” “The Lost Weekend” and “Dakota.”

Robert Plant, Beck, Son Volt’s Jay Rarrar, the Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli, and Tom Waits appear on an upcoming tribute album for Moby Grape guitarist “Skip” Spence.

“More Oar: A Tribute to the Alexander ‘Skip’ Spence Album” will feature cover versions of songs from Spence’s 1969 album, “Oar,” Guitar World said. Album sale profits will benefit Spence, who has schizophrenia.

Through the Grapevine

In case you haven’t heard, the Afghan Whigs’ latest album, “1965,” hosts a 22-second ditty full of orgasmic moans, hushed whispers and tapping.

Singer Greg Dulli explained the song “Sweet Son of a Bitch” to Bill Snyder of Allstar. “You know, a bird sings a song. A person making love sings a song. I felt it too beautiful to exclude from the record. And I kept it at 22 seconds because that’s nothing you want to hear for 3 minutes.”

Indeed.

Breaking the Law

Topping the list, Ol’ Dirty Bastard was arrested again Thursday in Carson, Calif. while attempting to climb over a security gate to enter his ex-girlfriend’s job site, MTV news reported.

The Wu-Tang Clan rapper is expected to appear in court Nov. 17 for allegedly threatening to shoot security staff from the West Hollywood House of Blues after being thrown out of the club in September.

Liam Gallagher of Oasis was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly attacking a photographer outside a London pub, BBC News said. Gallagher posted bail and was released shortly thereafter.

The incident was not the first time he tried to “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.” Last March the singer attacked an Australian fan who tried to take a photo of him.

You might think it’s really funny, but it’s snot.

Lynn Strait, lead singer of Snot was arrested July 9 at the band’s OzzFest show at Great Woods in Mansfield, Mass. for indecent exposure, Rocktropolis said. A trial date is set for Jan. 14.

Scott Weiland recently completed a court-ordered 90-day drug rehabilitation. The Stone Temple Pilots lead singer appeared in court Nov. 4, but his fate as the band’s frontman has yet to be decided. Weiland’s case was adjourned until Dec. 10.
