Boheme to host unusual benefit

They just want a little attention.

So Boheme Bistro is hosting a benefit concert Saturday to benefit … themselves, of course.

“Even though we advertise a lot, it still seems like nobody notices us,” Boheme manager Tiffany Spears said. “We support the community, and we want the community to support us.”

“Boheme Live” will consist of local band members coming together to “jam and make phenomenal music.”

The event will include The Bone People, Jack Gallup and members of the Griddle Dogs, Tribal Drumming by Didgidaki and members of 35″ Mudder and Grubby Ernie performing in a one-time hardcore side project band.

Spears said along with achieving club recognition, Boheme is hoping Ames can get a good look at local performers.

“We have had a lot of different bands in the past, but this is the first time we have gotten a lot of bands to perform in one day,” Spears said.

The event is the first of its kind at Boheme, and if all goes well, Spears said more concerts of this type will be in the future.

“Boheme Live” will be patterned after the popular PBS series “Austin City Limits,” meaning the artists will be playing on stage with each other in addition to playing their own individual sets.

One thing that makes this concert stick out over other local band showcases is the assortment of music that will be displayed.

“The variety is very important to us,” Spears said. “We try to have variety all of the time, we just haven’t had the opportunity to do it all in one day until now.”

Other things concertgoers can enjoy at Boheme are the bar’s beautiful oak dance floor and a wide variety of imported beers, micro-brews and wines from around the world.

Boheme opened over the summer with the goal of supporting cultural diversity in a social environment.

“Boheme Live” will be videotaped for Ames Public TV by Starshine Productions. The all-ages show begins Saturday at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $8 at the door, but a $10 donation for those who can afford it is suggested.

Boheme Bistro is located at 2900 West St., the former location of The Long Shot.
