Lightfoot: the right choice for Haitians

Andrew Ross

Lightfoot, I have heard, is ineffectual. My father took part in a mission in Haiti which helped develop the village of Pignon by helping children become educated and by building a hospital.

Lightfoot’s staff was extremely helpful and communicative with my father. They helped to get a Rotary Exchange student to come to the U.S., and they also shipped road building equipment during the U.S. military occupation of Haiti, just to name a few things.

Sen. Tom Harkin, who my father also asked for help, was much different. My father says he felt that Harkin viewed those in his constituency as victims and himself as the benevolent overseer. Lightfoot did a much better job of helping out his constituency.

I realize that my father was only talking to Lightfoot’s staff members, but if he is able to hire effective staff members who can communicate, then I would think he would be able to do the job of governor.

Lightfoot himself would have to get involved to get road building equipment shipped, and if he can do that, I wouldn’t call him ineffectual.

I would like to hear how Tom Vilsack communicates with and helps his constituents.

From where I stand, Lightfoot looks like a better candidate because he does well in both of these.

I would rather have someone that thinks of those that elected him while in office.
