Jump-A-Thon to help Ames boys and girls

An Iowa State fraternity and sorority are going to be “jumping” to aid the Boys and Girls Club of Ames.

Members from Phi Kappa Theta, 2110 Lincoln Way, and Kappa Delta, 2102 Sunset Drive, will be participating in the 48-hour Jump-A-Thon, which will be held on a trampoline in front of the fraternity, from Tuesday to Thursday. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Ames.

In addition to help from Kappa Delta sorority, the project already has received funding from individuals, businesses and the Government of the Student Body, said Jason Griswold, philanthropy chairman of Phi Kappa Theta and sophomore in pre-advertising.

Other members of the house agree the project is a positive event.

“Overall, I think this project is a good idea. It is a fairly simple and easy way to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club,” said Isaac Olsen, member of Phi Kappa Theta and sophomore in pre-physical therapy. “It is also a good way to get involved and to get our name out there.”

The children who will benefit from the project also will be participating in the event, Griswold said. He said the children from the Boys and Girls Club of Ames will be jumping on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

“If students want to come by and watch, that is fine with me and the house,” Griswold said.

Phi Kappa Theta and Kappa Delta members are not only raising money for the event, but also awareness, Griswold said.

“The KCCQ morning show is going to participate,” he said.

A donation box will be placed outside Phi Kappa Theta fraternity for students wishing to donate money to the charity.
