Jacobusse impresses
October 6, 1998
The women’s golf team came off its very strong showing at the Colorado Invitational in which it set many team records to struggle at the Big 12 Fall Preview.
“I felt everybody besides Noel was just average. I promise you we are better than 9th,” Coach Julie Manning said.
The squad ended up shooting a 54-round total of 944 (311-317-316). This showing was good for a ninth place finish, which was considered a disappointment.
There was one very big bright spot for the Cyclones, however. Noel Jacobusse shot a 222 (71-75-76) to earn co-medalist honors for the tournament. She was obviously pleased with her showing.
“I’m really excited about my first place finish,” Jacobusse said. “I didn’t expect to finish in the top five entering the tournament. Winning this tournament was a great way to show our team that anyone can go out and finish first at a tournament.”
The rest of the Cyclones had very similar rounds. Cathy Ennis and Glynnis McMath finished with a score of 240, which was good for a tie for 37th.
Heather Elenbaas ended with a 242, while Megan O’Dea was last among the linksters with a total of 243.
The tournament was won by national power Oklahoma State, who ended with a total of 908, 36 ahead of ISU’s final tally.
The golfers will end up the fall season with a trip to Bayonet Point, Fla., Oct. 9-11.
