“Observations”

A photography exhibit consisting of 20 black and white shots by Daily photographer Ron Altman will be in Gallery 181 in the Design Center today through Friday.

“Observations” will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, with a reception scheduled for tonight from 7 to 9.

Jazz and more jazz

The Iowa State Jazz Combos and Jazz Ensemble 11, directed by James Bovinette, will be performing tonight at 7:30. at the Music Hall Recital Hall.

The concert will feature the music of Duke Ellington, as well as other modern classics such as “Time After Time” and the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Jazz and other stuff

The California blues/jazz/rockabilly/ R & B band, Little Charlie and the Nightcats, will support its soon-to-be-released “Shadow Of The Blues” with a performance at The Grand at 15th and Grand in Des Moines tonight at 9.

Not jazz, but still cool

San Francisco’s A Minor Forest will play Gabe’s Oasis in Iowa City tonight in support of its latest, “Inindependence.”

The band’s live modern rock show has been praised by CMJ, Alternative Press and others.
