Fred Hoiberg, Iowa State alumnus and professional basketball player, will be speaking at a press conference with Gubernatorial Democratic candidate Tom Vilsack today at 9 a.m. in the lobby of Carver Hall.

Hoiberg is an Ames native who was nicknamed “The Mayor” during his years as a basketball player for ISU.

He now plays for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers.

Vilsack and Hoiberg will discuss Vilsack’s thoughts on making higher education affordable for middle-class Iowans.

A press release from Vilsack said he will talk about his efforts to stop “brain drain,” the term given to the growing phenomenon of college graduates leaving Iowa for jobs in other states.
