Women’s golf impressive in season debut

The Iowa State women’s golf team opened up their season at the Illinois State Redbird Classic last weekend.

The Cyclones finished third in the invitational, which included 17 teams from around the Midwest. They ended up seven strokes behind runner-up Illinois State. Fellow Big 12 member Missouri won the tournament with a score of 620.

The Cyclones were led by sophomore Noel Jacobusse, who tied for 6th place overall with a two round score of 153. Jacobusse shot rounds of 73-80 to finish with 153, and was only three strokes from placing third in the invitational.

Sophomore Cathy Ennis finished in the top ten as well, placing in a tie for 9th with rounds of 75-80 for a total of 155.

Others playing in the tournament included sophomores Glynnis McMath, who shot a 160, Megan O’Dea (163), Heather Elenbaas (164), and junior Julie Swanson, who ended up shooting 173.

The girls will now head to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Nebraska Chip-N-Club, which will be held on September 14-15.
