In my rush to let people know of the many jazz-listening opportunities central Iowa has to offer, I overlooked Iowa State’s own Ken Jolls. A professor of chemical engineering at ISU, Dr. Jolls has entertained central Iowa audiences for many years. In fact, by contrast to Wanderlust, Dr. Jolls may be able to claim himself as an “only.” To my knowledge, there is not another vibraphone player in central Iowa. Two or three times a month, you can find Dr. Jolls and his trio at Cafe Beaudelaire and other Ames nightspots.
