$1.5 million going to communities

Iowa State President Martin Jischke announced on Sept. 3 his plan to invest $1.5 million over the next three years in learning communities for Iowa State.

According to Inside Iowa State, the program has proved to enhance academic performance and increase positive attitudes among students.

The additional money will fund distance education programs such as World Wide Web classes and support efforts in the Colleges of Business, Design, Engineering and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Jischke said as a result, the learning communities will measure the impact on student retention, achievement and recruitment.

About 1,350 students are signed up for learning communities this fall.

Hatha Yoga lessons available

Free Hatha Yoga introductions will be available Thursday to all interested Iowa State students, faculty and staff and members of the Ames community.

The classes are designed to let anyone interested in experiencing yoga sample the fall class offerings, according to the press release.

The free demonstration will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union.
