Missing the point
September 15, 1998
I guess I have to chalk up Jessica Bittner’s column about the presidential scandal as another in a long line that are “missing the point.”
“In essence, the only thing that Clinton did wrong was get caught.”
What a misguided statement.
The American media seems to be so focused on the sexual aspect of the current situation that these articles detailing how many other public officials have affairs seem to be popping up everywhere. Do people truly have this much trouble understanding what Clinton did wrong?
The affair is morally wrong according to my personal moral standards, but it is certainly not illegal.
Clinton is the highest member of the branch of our government which is tasked with enforcing the laws of this country, and he twice lied under oath.
He swore to uphold and enforce the laws of this country but chose to put those laws aside when they were not convenient for him. This is a disappointment and a crime.
Why can’t the media manage to understand that this is the issue, not who Clinton chose to have sexual relations with. Even Kennedy, for all his famed womanizing, did NOT lie about it under oath.
Clinton needs to learn to tell the truth. I really do not care who he chooses to have sex with — that is for Hillary to deal with.
