FAVR available for financial aid questions

For students who need to know their financial aid status but do not have the time to wait in long lines at Beardshear Hall, “Financial Aid Voice Response” or FAVR, may be an ideal alternative.

FAVR, which is in its second year at Iowa State, is a telephone program that students can call, and upon dialing their university PIN number, they can hear their current financial aid status (i.e. how much money they may owe, or what offices to talk to if they need help).

The 24-hour number allows students to “access and review their own financial aid record,” said Earl Dowling, director of ISU financial aid.

Dowling said to use FAVR, a student needs his or her PIN number and a touch-tone telephone. The number for FAVR is 268-7180.

“It’s a financial aid system that serves the students … whether it’s pouring down rain or you simply don’t want to come down to the office, everything you want to know, even if your [financial aid is blocked] because you owe a parking ticket or a library fee, is on the program,” Dowling said.

Dowling also noted that the ISU homepage has a financial aid link that gives students similar information.
