Davy leads on the field

This season, the Iowa State women’s soccer team faces one of the most unique situations in college athletics.

Only one senior resides on the Cyclones’ roster. She is defender Ann Davy of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Being the lone senior on the squad, Davy must help a relatively young but successful team improve.

“We’ve got a lot of good young players that coach brought in, and we’re looking to compete in the Big 12,” Davy said.

Naturally, Davy brings a wealth of experience to the team.

“I have the experience, since I’ve been here for four years,” Davy said. “I’ve seen how things work around here and I’ve watched this program grow.”

Coach Cathy Klein finds many positives when describing Davy.

“Ann brings leadership, loyalty and work ethic that is second to none on this team,” Klein said.

Junior teammate and fellow defender Alicia Rollison agrees.

“We look at Ann as a good leader who knows the drills and can answer your questions if you have them,” Rollison said. “She is always working hard, and she’ll never, ever let you down.”

So, what observations has this senior leader made of the team?

“We are working to be stronger both on and off the field,” Davy said. “The communication among players needs to improve so that, on the field, we can do things for each other.”

Needless to say, Davy plays a major role in the success of the ISU women’s soccer team. With her career nearing an end, Davy reflects upon her years at ISU.

“I had the opportunity to play with a lot of different, wonderful people,” Davy said. “The coaches have been great and have taught me a lot. Everyone’s been very supportive of me.”
