Maintenance Shop schedule changes

Industrial diva Sister Soleil has postponed her Sept. 17 show at The M-Shop due to record company conflict.

M-Shop staff are working to reschedule the show as soon as possible, which could be some time in October.

Meanwhile, Sister Soleil’s major label debut “Soularium” continues to climb record sales charts, strongly due to the moderate radio success of the first single, “Torch.”

Son Seals, a blues act scheduled to return to The M-Shop Saturday, evidently scheduled two shows for the same date and has canceled its appearance in Ames.

Replacing Son Seals is the Des Moines jam band El Ba¤o (which means The Bathroom in Spanish) and Ames’ own Medulla Oblongatta.

Admission to that show will be $3 at the door. Showtime is scheduled for 9 p.m.

Hole, Local H and other fall releases

Fall is looking to be an exciting season in the record industry, as alternative rockers Hole and Marilyn Manson are expected to release long-awaited albums.

Hole’s “Celebrity Skin” hits stores Sept. 8, two days before the band will perform the title track live at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The record was produced by Michael Beinhorn, who oversaw Soundgarden’s “Superunknown,” Soul Asylum’s “Grave Dancer’s Union” and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Mother’s Milk,” and includes production work by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan.

“Celebrity Skin” has been reported as being more diverse than past Hole records, complete with acoustic guitars and strings.

The Zion, Ill. duo Local H will release its third Island Records project, “Pack Up The Cats,” on Sept. 1. The album’s first single, “All The Kids Are Right,” a song about a gig gone wrong, was added to 116 stations last week.

Other Island releases this fall include PJ Harvey (Sept. 29), Tracy Bonham (October) and Portishead (Nov. 17).

Another long-awaited record due in September is Marilyn Manson’s “Anti-Christ Superstar” follow-up “Mechanical Animals.”

Due Sept. 15, the album was produced by Michael Beinhorn and Mr. Manson himself. More information about “Mechanical Animals” can be found on the official Web site marilynmanson.net.
