AMES — Lisa Griebel, a sophomore on the Iowa State women’s track and field team won the shot put title Saturday at the 1998 U.S. Junior Track and Field Championships in Edwardsville, Ill. Griebel’s title earns her a spot on the 1998 World Junior Track and Field Championship team competing in Annecy, France, July 28-Aug. 2.

Griebel was the 1998 Big 12 indoor shot put champion and runner-up outdoors. She also qualified in the shot put for both the NCAA indoor and outdoor championship meets. Currently, she is the top freshman collegiate performer and has the 10th-best throw (52-1/2 in the World Junior ranks.
