FCS conference set for Aug. 10-11 at Scheman

The Unified Family and Consumer Science Conference will be held at the Scheman Building August 10-11. This year’s theme is “The Third Millennium: New Challenges and New Opportunities.”

The conference will consist of 40 to 50 breakout sessions and guest speakers, such as Howard Helmer, Chef Mark Buckley and Nancy Byal and features Dr. Edna Page Anderson. Dr Anderson will be presenting “How do we get there from here? The ABCs for the next millennium.”

The conference will gather family and consumer science professionals in the fields of business, communications, dietetics, education, extensions, health, human services and research and development.

Summer lecture on nutrition coming up

The Nutritional Sciences Council of Iowa State is sponsoring a summer lectureship on nutrition and immunology on August 6 and 7. Dr. Simin Meydani of Tufts University will give the lectures. Students may register for one hour of credit as FSHN 500F (reference no. 6675005) for attending the 10 hours of lectures.

The lectures will be held in E164 Lagomarcino Hall and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days with a one-hour lunch break. The lectures are open to everyone. For additional information, contact Don Beitz at 515-294-5626.


Career conference for Iowa girls scheduled for fall

Iowa State’s Program for Women in Science and Engineering will again be sponsoring “Taking the Road Less Traveled,” a career conference for junior high and high school girls, this fall.

The conference provides an opportunity for girls to explore nontraditional careers in math, science, engineering and technology.

The conference will consist of six sessions to be held the following Thursdays: Oct. 8, Oct. 15 and Oct. 22. Registration information will be sent to Iowa schools in August. Early registrations will not be accepted.
