Egbelu named fellow of Banff institute

Pius Egbelu, Iowa State professor and chair of the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, was named a fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers on May 9 in Banff, Canada.

The Institute of Industrial Engineers serves 24,000 members in more than 90 countries.

“It is an award given to people who have made a contribution to the field of engineering,” Egbelu said. “It is an honor.”

According to a press release, Egbelu received his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University and his master’s and doctorate from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Egbelu also served as program director for the National Science Foundation’s Operations Research and Productions Systems Programs.

He came to ISU as a professor in 1996. Since then, he has been asked to speak at institutions, professional meetings and conferences around the world.

Egbelu was recognized for 20 years of teaching, research and contributions to engineering in the area of materials handling for industry use in production control with some emphasis in robotics.
