Good sports
July 16, 1998
Here’s a refreshing bit of sportsmanship.
Some 25-30 Brazilians (and their friends) gathered Sunday at Cafe Beaudelaire to root for their soccer team in the World Cup final against France. They were a colorful, fun bunch, with painted faces, T-shirts, flags, whistles and a drum. But they lost the match, 3-0.
After the final whistle, all the Brazilian supporters stood up, turned toward the lone Frenchman in the cafe and gave him a rousing ovation.
That’s really cool.
