Northern Iowa made the most out of its scoring opportunities on Tuesday, scoring six of its seven runs with two outs as the Panthers downed Iowa State 7-1.

UNI broke the game open in the seventh inning, bursting for four runs. Panther Aaron Houdeshell socked a two-out, three-run double in the bottom of the frame for the big blast.

Freshman pitcher Mitch Price kept ISU batters in check in his 7 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on eight hits.

Shawn Leimbek and Bill Uelmen each had a pair of hits for the Cyclones. Matt McDonough’s sacrifice fly drove in the lone Cyclone run in the fourth.

ISU’s Jason Mathys took the loss, surrendering three runs on four hits.

The Cyclones overall record now stands at 12-17, while the Panthers jump to 16-19.
