Restroom etiquette

Kerry Olson

Restroom etiquette is a problem for many living in the dorms. I think there are ways to help solve this problem and keep the bathrooms clean. This problem could soon no longer bother anyone on campus.

The biggest problem for the restroom etiquette would be the vomiting from excessive drinking. I have to ask why do people insist on drinking until they get sick? Is it fun for them? I know it is not fun looking at it or listening to it. There is a simple way to solve this. Raise the cost of the fines for people who make the messes in the restrooms. This would discourage people from making a huge mess, and encourage them, if they do get sick, to clean it up so no one will ever know it happened, or to use their own garbage can. Punishment could also be another way to fix this problem. Nothing serious, just force them to clean the bathrooms for a while.

The cleanliness of the restrooms in most dorms is safe. If you are worried about it, then I would suggest wearing your shower shoes and don’t touch the walls. I consider them safe; I mean, I don’t want to live my life in a plastic bag because I am afraid of a few little germs.

If water supply is what is concerning you, I would recommend taking shorter showers, turning the water off while you brush your teeth and using a bottle for drinking water instead of standing at the fountain. It is common courtesy to flush the toilet in a public place. If you think about it, the next person who comes along is going to flush it before they use it anyway. There is really no conservation of water there. I don’t think time is the problem, maybe it’s just laziness or forgetfulness.

I think that these problems can be taken care of if we handle it in the right manner. They are simple problems, and in public places we have been taught since childhood to behave a certain way. We should still continue what our parents taught us. A tragedy? No, I wouldn’t call it that, just a little lack of restroom etiquette.
