Ridens and Moore to transfer schools

Freshmen forwards Walter Moore and Chris Ridens have decided to transfer from Iowa State to junior colleges at the end of the spring semester, ISU Coach Tim Floyd announced.

Both players red-shirted during the 1997-98 season and knew they would have limited playing time next season due to the experience returning at the front court positions.

“With red-shirting this season, Walter and Chris saw how their teammates had a head start on them as far as playing experience,” Floyd said.

“They saw the return of senior Klay Edwards, juniors Paul Shirley and Tony Rampton, sophomores Marcus Fizer and Martin Rancik, as well as the signing of junior college transfer DeWayne Johns,” he said.

Moore, a native of Chesterfield, Mo., is looking at schools in Texas, near where his parents will relocate. Ridens, from Mountain Grove, Mo., will attend Southwest Missouri State Community College in West Plains.

“Since they sat out this season, Walter and Chris wanted to seek opportunities to play next year,” Floyd said. “Junior college basketball will give them the game experience they are looking for. They are both fine young men, and we wish them well.”
