Why don’t they start the fountain?

At Iowa State, we pride ourselves on the great campus we have. Of course, to keep it looking good, renovations are always necessary.

After having been here for four years, the senior class has seen many renovations, such as the remodeling of the Union food court, the fixing of the Campanile bells, and Catt Hall, to name a few.

The newest renovation has been the fountain right outside of the Memorial Union. As freshman and sophomores, we were accustomed to the flowing fountain that would signal the coming of summer.

However, this year they seem to be reluctant to turn the fountain on, even though it is finally fixed.

Why the wait? If anyone will appreciate the revival of the fountain, it’s the seniors who remember when it worked. We’re the ones who have missed it, not next fall’s students.

Furthermore, our class of ’98 is donating money (a goal of $80,000) to the fountain as the class gift. Wouldn’t it be logical then, as a token of thanks, that Iowa State would allow us to see the results of our donations for at least the remaining two weeks while we are here?

The fountain is fixed, so let’s start it.
