Voice coach to address broadcasters

Daily Staff Writer

A voice coach who has worked with journalists in more than 100 media markets will be the featured speaker at the Iowa Broadcast News Association convention on Saturday in Ames.

Eve Pruden, who has coached broadcasters in Canada and Singapore, will speak about voice problems and remedies for on-air personalities, said Darwin Danielson, anchor at Radio Iowa.

“She’ll be talking about how to protect your voice and treat it right,” he said, adding that Pruden would offer some suggestions for radio hosts who are bothered by the common cold.

Pruden’s speech will run from 9 a.m. to noon, with lunch being served from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The convention’s afternoon seminar will feature University of Missouri on-line journalism professor Mike McKean.

According to the IBNA, McKean “will offer a ‘top 15’ list of suggestions for improving radio and television Web sites.” Danielson, who said he has heard McKean speak before, said McKean will also discuss the use of the Internet for news-gathering.

McKean’s speech is scheduled from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Students are admitted free to the convention, which will be held at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center on Elwood Drive, south of Ames.
