Vice provost candidate forums slated — All ISU undergraduate students are invited to attend open forums in the Memorial Union this week with the three candidates for the newly-created vice provost position.

Each of the three finalists for the position is already an ISU faculty member. They are: Warren Dolphin, professor of zoology and genetics; Jane Peterson, professor of journalism and mass communication, and Howard Shapiro, professor of mechanical engineering and an assistant dean in the College of Engineering.

Today’s discussion will feature Dolphin, with Peterson scheduled for Thursday and Shapiro for Friday. Students are encouraged to come all three days and ask questions of the candidates.


Career Advancement Expo — Mercy Hospital Medical Center and the Principal Financial Group, in conjunction with various Des Moines radio stations, will sponsor a Career Advancement Expo on Thursday at the University Park Holiday Inn in West Des Moines.

The expo will include employers in such fields as finance, business, banking, insurance, temporary agencies and health care. The event, which lasts from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., will feature guest speakers on stress control, leadership and selling ideas.

Spring Clay Sale for ISU College of Design Art Club — The ISU College of Design Art Club (CODAC) will hold its Spring Clay Sale today and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the atrium of the College of Design.

The functional, decorative and sculptural items offered are made by ceramics students. The purpose of the sale includes providing funds that allow the organization to invite guest speakers and workshop presenters to campus.


Nature hike at McFarland Park — A spring hike scheduled for Saturday will feature a trail hike through McFarland Park.

Naturalist Nan Geske will lead the program, which is sponsored by Story County Conservation and the Parks and Recreation Department. The program is open to the public, and a fee of $5 will be charged to participants.

Registration is available with Parks and Recreation, 1500 Gateway Hills Park Dr., or the Community Center, 515 Clark. Hikers will meet at the Conservation Center at McFarland Park, 56461 180th St., at 1:30 p.m.
