ACLU meeting today — All students, faculty and staff are invited to the first meeting of the Iowa State chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which will take place today at 7 p.m. in Room 258 of the Memorial Union.

The group will act as a “watchdog” for students’ civil liberties and to promote education and awareness of such issues, according to Ben Byrne, the group’s president.

Tonight’s informal meeting will introduce the group and its goals and elicit feedback from potential members.


Wellness Center Internships Available — The Iowa State Wellness Center, a service of the ISU Student Health Center, will offer internships in various areas such as food and nutrition, psychology and exercise science/exercise physiology or community health for the fall semester.

The volunteer positions offer hands-on experience and require just one to two hours per week. Preference will be given to upperclassmen, but sophomores may apply as well.

Application information is available in Room 2015 of the ISU Wellness Center, located on the second floor of the Student Health Center. For questions, call 294-1868.


Ginkgo Festival organizers searching for volunteers — Volunteers are needed for the fourth annual Ginkgo Festival, which will take place July 10-12.

Organizers are asking for help in logistics and merchandising, as well as other areas during the celebration.

The Ginkgo Festival Board meets every Thursday at the Youth and Shelter Services Building in the Mezzanine Room at 7 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. For more information, contact Dom Caristi at 294-9967.


University Committee on Women seeks nominations — Nominations are open for the University Committee on Women, which is seeking two faculty, one merit, five P&S and six student members for next year.

The committee has the charge of “recommending positive steps that the university can take to ensure the status of women, not only in terms of numbers and salaries, but also in relation to policies and practices of the university which may inadvertently cause special difficulties for women employees and students.”

Spring brunch and two-by-four sale for Habitat — A spring brunch/fund-raiser will be held on Sunday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1015 Hyland Ave.

The public is invited to attend, and the price of the brunch is a freewill donation to Story County Habitat for Humanity.
