The Cyclone sluggers added another win to their overall record with the defeat of the Northern Iowa Panthers Tuesday afternoon in Cedar Falls.

Iowa State’s Michelle Junon went 2-for-4 with an RBI, leading the softball squad to a 2-1 victory.

The Panthers crossed the plate for the game’s first point in the opening inning off a hit by UNI’s Angie Scheurs, which allowed Panther Jackie Paulus to roar across home plate for a 1-0 lead.

Three innings later, the Cyclones responded with a run of their own. Jaime Kahler, who was pinch-running for Kimi Yoshizawa, was chauffeured home by a ground out by Jessica Polo.

The second Cyclone run in the top of the seventh as Junod made contact for an RBI single, allowing junior Erin Woods to score. Woods initially went to first on a walk and stole second base to set up the run

Sophomore Mandy Loushin recorded the pitching victory, moving her win-loss record up to 6-9 on the season. During the ISU/UNI contest, she hurled eight strike outs and only allowed six hits.

Panther Jeannine Soncini dropped her pitching tally one notch to 6-4 on the season.

The second game between the intrastate rivals was cancelled due to rainy weather in Cedar Falls.
