Members of The September 29th Movement met with Iowa State President Martin Jischke in Beardshear Hall at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Vice President for Student Affairs Thomas Hill, who was also at the meeting, said the morning’s events were confidential.

“I’m not allowed to discuss it at this point,” he said.

Both The Movement and the administration sent five representatives to the meeting.

Milton McGriff, graduate student in English; Taiyon Coleman, graduate student in English; Alissa Strahan, sophomore in pre-business; Meron Wondwosen, senior in French and political science, and Brenda Jones, associate professor of art and design, spoke for The Movement.

Representing the administration were Barbara Mack, associate professor of journalism and mass communication; Carla Espinoza, assistant vice president for human resource services and director of affirmative action; Dianne Bystrom, director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women in Politics; Hill and Jischke.

According to terms previously accepted by both sides, the only topic of discussion at the meeting was to be the renaming of Catt Hall.

Also, tape recorders, stenographers and media representatives were excluded from Wednesday’s conference.

McGriff was tight-lipped, but he did have one comment regarding the meeting.

“We agreed to a guideline that we don’t like, but we agreed to it,” he said.

Neither McGriff nor Hill would say if more meetings are going to take place.
