The Iowa State softball team (8-15) bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Creighton in the first game of a doubleheader to win 1-0 in the nightcap.

In the weekend’s first game, Creighton’s Marie Gieron nailed down the extra-inning win by picking up the save. A double by Shannon Hoos of the Lady Jays drove home the winning run in the top half of the eighth.

The game was tied 1-1 after seven innings. A second-inning homerun by Frenchy Nix and a fifth inning RBI by ISU’s Kimi Yoshizawa accounted for the earlier tallies. Cyclone freshman Kristin Ferguson took the loss to drop to 3-3 on the season.

In the second game, Cinnamon Gooding’s double knocked in Michelle Junod in the first inning for the contest’s only run. The Cyclones managed only four hits against Lady Jay pitching.

Sophomore Mandy Loushin allowed only three hits in going the distance on the mound.

Loushin fanned seven in helping improve her record to 5-9.
