Taste Stage offers Veishea variety

Out of all of the changes made in preparation for this year’s Veishea, one thing will remain the same — the “A Taste of Veishea” stage on Welch Avenue will offer entertainment for families and students.

It’s estimated that more than 100,000 people will meander down Welch Avenue to visiting the vendors selling everything from funnel cakes to turkey and enjoying the variety of all-ages entertainment.

This year, performers taking the A Taste of Veishea stage include Ames’ locals Good Things, Grandma Mojo’s Moonshine Revival and Medulla Oblongata.

Other performers include the Ames Drill Team, the Jazz Quartet of Ames, Salt Company and the Iowa State Dance Club.

There will also be vignettes from this year’s Varieties contests.

Traditionally, those who place well in Varieties are asked to participate in A Taste of Veishea.

Liz Gries, junior in English, said that Vocal Trio is no exception — it placed third in Varieties 1998 and will be featured on the A Taste of Veishea stage along with the Shaggy Boys and Monte Carlo.

“This year we set the itinerary to appeal to all ages, so that after the parade families can come down,” Rebecca Krueger, A Taste of Veishea Stage co-chairwoman, said.

“Also it gives some different variety than just alternative music for college kids.”

However, the event isn’t limited to performers associated with Iowa State.

The committee put out applications for anyone interested in performing.

This is how Mediocre Super Heroes, a jazz band from the Ames community, was discovered.

KCCQ is also scheduled to spin ’70s and ’80s hits Friday and Saturday night.
