After a hectic year as president of the Government of the Student Body, Rob Weise joked that he would have few problems serving as president of the Graduate Student Senate next school year.

“After a year on GSB, this will be a piece of cake,” Weise joked at Monday night’s GSS meeting. Weise was the lone GSS senator nominated for next year’s GSS president.

GSS president was the only position voted on for next fall.

At the beginning of the meeting, current executive office members described their positions, and encouraged senators to run for them.

Wiese received the position which GSS president Juana Nolasco described as a job that represents “graduate students in a variety of ways.”

All the executive positions, vice president, finance council, rules committee, communications committee and legislative affairs are still open for next year.

Nominations for those positions were taken Monday, and will be taken again and voted on during the April GSS meeting.

Lisa Denault, vet med, and Kelly Wolfe-Bellin, botany, were both nominated for the position of vice president.

For the position of finance committee, Kari Azevedo was re-nominated; for rules committee, Julienne Hill, physics, and Rob Bellin, biochemistry, were nominated; for professional advancement committee, Mike Reed, physics, was nominated.

There were no nominations for the positions of legislative affairs and secretary.

The remainder of the meeting proceeded in near record time, with most of the senators itching to get home to watch the NCAA Finals Game, which resulted in a Kentucky win.

In Nolasco’s opening remarks, she said, “Thank you everyone for coming — Go Kentucky!”
