The Iowa State women’s golf team traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C. this past weekend and finished last in the three-team tournament. The Cyclones shot a two-round total of 649 to finish behind Northwestern and Minnesota, who shot 625 and 635 respectively.

“As a team we struggled. The conditions were quite difficult,” senior Fiona Watson said. “The greens were very hard, and we had troubles keeping the ball from going through. We were constantly making changes.”

The Cyclones were coming off a second-place finish at the Lady Bronc Classic in Mission, Texas, over spring break. They finished second behind Texas El Paso in the nine-team field.

Watson, along with freshman Noel Jacobusse, earned the low scores for the Cyclones. Both posted a score of 160, which tied them for fifth place overall.

The pair swapped scores in the two rounds, with Watson shooting a 77 on day one and an 83 on the next afternoon. Jacobusse carded an 83 in her opening round, but she was six strokes better on the second.

Amy Dahle of Minnesota had a score of 153 to capture medalist honors.

“The first day I was very steady,” Watson said. “The second day I had a great first nine holes, but I got really frustrated on the back nine.

“For supposedly being an experienced player, I showed a little inexperience,” she said. “I’m hitting the ball well; I just have to keep working hard and things will work out.”

Sara Linneman tied for 11th while Cathy Matthews shared the 13th position for the Cyclones.

In the Texas meet, ISU shot a three-day total of 943. Jacobusse and Cathy Ennis tied for 13th shooting a 239, while Linneman and Matthews followed closely behind, tying for 16th with scores of 241.

The Cyclones will travel to St. George, Utah, on April 6-7 to compete in the Utah Dixie Classic.
