Library dean finalists announced — Iowa State has named four finalists in the search for a dean of library services.

The finalists include Olivia Madison, associate director for public services and collections and ISU interim dean of library services; Keith Russell, deputy director of the National Agricultural Library in Beltsville, Md.; John Ulmschneider, associate director for information technology at The Libraries, North Carolina State University, Raleigh; and Thomas Wilding, director of libraries at the University of Texas, Arlington.

The finalists have scheduled ISU campus visits from March 23 through April 3.

Each will speak about “library services in the 21st century” at an open forum, which will be followed by a reception.

Iowa Arboretum to host breakfast and demonstration — The Iowa Arboretum will present a demonstration of maple tree tapping at its Eighth Annual Spring Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Breakfast will include pancakes, maple syrup, pork sausage, orange juice and coffee. Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children. Registration is not necessary.


Helen Sidles nursing scholarship — Applications are being accepted for the Helen Sidles nursing scholarship, named for a longtime nurse at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Sidles’ family established the scholarship fund after her death because of her interest in furthering students’ education. The scholarship will be awarded in April to a student in his/her final year of a nursing program.
