Politically correct

Melissa Mccall

At the risk of being politically correct, I wanted to respond to Eric S. Vymyslicky’s letter dealing with homosexuality in the Boy Scouts.

Homosexuals ARE people too, just like you and me. They have emotions, thoughts, needs and wants. They AREN’T confused, they DO deserve equal rights — everywhere.

I don’t see how you can justify that a homosexual man would be a bad role model. Which would you rather have being the Scout Leader for your son’s Boy Scout troop: a homosexual man who is a good citizen or a heterosexual man who tells the boys that it’s good to beat your wife, it “keeps her in line?” A mentality such as that should not be welcome anywhere. I certainly wouldn’t want any child of MINE with the latter.

You also mention something about pedophilia, and you make it seem as if though only homosexuals are pedophiles. Not so; a heterosexual man can be a pedophile as well, and he’s just as likely to go after a little boy as he is a little girl.

As far as the comments about our society’s “perverted notion that it is OK for two homosexuals to marry and start a family,” I don’t think you would be saying that if you looked at the other side.

The only reason homosexuality is under fire is because it isn’t how it has always been done. Just think what you would be saying if our society had begun with homosexuality instead of heterosexuality. That would put YOU in the oppressed group who is bigoted against and stereotyped.
