Iowa State criminals

Being surrounded by Student Security, the three thousand divisions of Department of Public Safety and the most important Parking Division have always made me feel somewhat safe at Iowa State for the three years I’ve been attending. Overall, our campus is a relatively safe place to live.

When I opened the newspaper and found that a student had been car-jacked near one of the residence halls, I was honestly disgusted. I’ve tried to understand the mind of a thief after getting a gym bag stolen last year at the Rec Center. But I am dumbfounded as to why a person would want to steal someone else’s car? For one thing, the person has seen you and will likely be able to recognize you again. I also believe that carjacking is more than just theft, it’s a federal offense.

I try to place myself in the shoes of the victim and find I’m frightened to death. With the barrage of criminal-is-the-good-guy movies in recent years, I think most people forget how major theft is. Are you so hard on your luck that you need some poor guy’s car to make a living? Or are you just some sick punk that thinks he’s found an easy way? Anyone that is tempted to steal the item that you believe you deserve should ask themselves these two questions first.

Jail looks bad on a resume.
