‘Northern exposure’ — Minnesota unfairly criticized in column (2 of 3)

UFF DA! Isn’t free speech great? As a native Minnesotan, I do have to say that we have a reputation for “Minnesota nice,” so I won’t go and rip on Iowa and stoop to the level of the jerk who wrote the editorial about the wonderful state. Instead, I will merely point out the obvious reasons why Minnesota is SO much better than Iowa. For one thing, I know you Iowans are proud of your man-made sloughs, I mean lakes, but ours are REAL! Imagine that, you can actually find somewhere to go and have a good time in summer, within a few miles of your house. Although there is plenty to do here during the summer — it’s a party detasseling corn, or walking through the bean fields, sweating dirt.

I have a question for the author: if he knows so much about the state, obviously he goes there a lot, but why, if it “annoys” him so much? Also, I am glad we have so many mosquitoes, if it keeps the other pests (like the author) away. To quote one of my fellow Minnesotans, “The only good thing about Iowa State is all the Minnesotans that go here!”
