Two students enjoyed honors Monday as Iowa State’s first Ag Man and Woman of the Year.

Matt Miller, sophomore in agricultural education and agricultural business, and Minde Jo Hibma, senior in agronomy and ag business, were named during a barbecue lunch sponsored by the College of Agriculture Monday.

The lunch was part of festivities that took place in recognition of National Ag Day, which was March 20.

Hibma and Miller were selected from 12 applicants for the award.

“It is a great honor and also very exciting to be recognized … I am pleased and proud to have served the College of Agriculture during my time here,” Hibma said.

Hibma added that she is grateful to the college, the College of Ag Council and Alpha Zeta for sponsoring the award.

“It is programs like this that will encourage continued strong leadership from the students for the College of Agriculture,” she said.

Miller, who has participated in activities such as the International Ag Club, NAMA, the Agriculture Education Club and Alpha Zeta, said the award was special because ISU’s ag program is one of the best in the nation.

“Receiving this award is a great honor,” Miller said. “[The college] offers boundless educational opportunities to those who have the desire to grow.
