Sensitivity training

Adrian A. Devore

I see that the Daily (especially Carmen Cerra) has officially flunked journalistic sensitivity training class in response to the Jonesboro, Ark., schoolyard shootings by featuring the unfunny cartoon, “B is for Bobby who blew them away” to satirize a tragedy. For the humor of it, I have simply failed to find any.

With all of the sudden uproar for so-called “family values” in light of this tragedy, I too have to wonder “where were the parents” who have failed to teach these young criminals the consequences between what is right and wrong. I figure these parents were too busy watching “Melrose Place,” or worse, “The A-Team” while tending the family gun collection to become (at least) 100 percent involved in the lives of their children. So, again, real “Family Values” are upheld by persons who ignore their responsibilities as parents by avoiding the long-term negative repercussions of the children they have chosen to raise.

The Daily has missed the editorial jump shot on this recent tragedy, but again, they had to rush off for a remedial session in journalistic sensitivity training.
