Regional Freshman Leadership Conference — The Freshman Council of Iowa State will hold the first annual Regional Freshman Leadership Conference on March 28.

The purpose of the conference is to help freshmen from regional colleges and universities develop methods necessary to build leadership at their schools.

More than 100 students from 30 Iowa and regional schools and 50 ISU students will participate in workshops which cover networking and gender communication, among other issues.

Students interested in participating can pick up an application in the Freshman Council office in the East Student Office Space of the Memorial Union or at university post offices. The deadline for applications is Feb. 27.


Black History Month essay and coloring contest — MSBET and Hilton Hotels Corporation have begun a promotion of black history with the launch of the “Why Black History is Important to Me” Essay and Coloring Contest.

Four grand prize winners will be awarded trips for two to Washington, D.C., or to Atlanta, Ga. Participants should include an essay of 100 to 250 words describing how African American history has influenced their lives, and entrants 8 years old and younger may submit a color drawing instead.

Career exploration workshop — The Student Counseling Service if offering a career workshop which will help students with decisions concerning the future. The workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 19 and Feb. 23.

Students may sign up at the front desk of Student Counseling Service on the 3rd floor of the Student Services Building.


Mardi Gras dance — Towers Residence Association, Richardson Court Association and Multicultural Awareness Support System (MASS) will sponsor a dance on Friday in the Scheman Building from 8 p.m. until midnight.
