Accurate coverage

It is clear that Jason Crane’s letter to the editor in Thursday’s Daily regarding Wednesday’s article about Chris Wisher was written from pure emotion. Crane was clearly outraged by the factual and fair coverage of the issue only because it exposed the damaging truth. The truth is that Chris Wisher sent an intentionally misleading and misinforming letter to nearly every student in the residence halls.

As an educated student living in the residence halls, I resent Wisher’s attempt at tricking me into voting for him by making me think he can fight the room and board increase. Wisher’s stance on the issue may indeed be honorable; however, he needs to get the facts straight before he takes action and sends out false information to the students he supposedly represents.

The fact is, the Maple Hall renovations will not be fully funded by the room and board increase. In fact, the increase will already be voted on, and most likely passed, by the Board of Regents by the time Wisher would take office if he were elected president of the Government of the Student Body. The Daily did its job fairly and accurately, practicing sound journalism techniques by interviewing sources on all sides of the issue. The damage to Chris Wisher’s character was a direct result of his own actions, not of the Daily’s complete and unbiased coverage.
