Student carjacked near Buchanan lot

An Iowa State student was the victim of a carjacking Tuesday night while “warming up” his car in Lot 62, near Buchanan Hall.

Department of Public Safety officials said the suspect got the student’s attention by tapping on the car’s window.

The victim’s name was not released as of press time Tuesday.

Captain Rob Bowers of DPS said the suspect ordered the victim from his car, but pulled him out of the car “as if he wasn’t getting out of the car fast enough.”

No weapon was displayed during the robbery, but Bowers said the suspect had his hand under his shirt as if he had a weapon.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6-feet tall with wavy hair possibly slicked back. The suspect and the car, a white 1989 Chevrolet Beretta, were last seen Tuesday night going east on Gable Lane.

DPS officials say they are continuing their investigation and encourage anyone with information to call them at 294-4428.

Due to the possibility of danger, “We ask people to not approach the car if they find it,” Bowers said.
