Movement to hold rally to protest Jischke’s refusal to meet

The September 29th Movement has decided to hold a rally on Tuesday to protest Iowa State President Martin Jischke’s refusal to meet with the group to discuss diversity issues.

The Movement held a “wait-in” in Jischke’s office all last week in an attempt to set up meeting dates.

About 10 members and supporters waited in Jischke’s office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We think it’s absolutely inexcusable that the president of an institution of higher learning will not meet with students to address their concerns,” said Brian Johnson, member of The Movement in a released statement. “We hope the community will show their support by joining us at this protest.”

The rally, which will begin at noon, will be held at Catt Hall.
