The truth

Brian C. Johnson

A lie repeated often enough becomes the truth if no one speaks out against it. President Jischke, you are a liar.

You say that we violated the guidelines on Oct. 29, but you have never been able to produce evidence that we agreed to your guidelines, and neither has Pascual Marquez. If I just libeled you, prove it in court.

But before that, explain to the ISU community why you won’t allow recording in the first place, and why you wanted meetings between us to be secret. On Oct. 29, you said you thought recording would prevent an “honest dialogue.” Since you work for the tax payers, maybe you would like to explain to them why you feel you can only be honest in secret and off-the-record. Maybe they would like to know.

And while you’re at it, explain why the African American graduation rate is 33 percent at Iowa State. Explain why ISU ranks 9 out of 10 in African American retention rates in a sampling of peer institutions.

Finally, explain why you won’t meet with students who have brought these and other issues to your attention. President Jischke, some of us have asked for explanations for over two years. When will you answer?
