Banned cars?

(Some people out there may think I am mocking the halogen lamp safety issue. Those people should be labeled geniuses.)

I have noticed a serious trend out there that needs to be put to a halt. Too many people out there are putting others at risk every day. They are not turning on those deadly halogen lamps, but they are starting up their cars and driving to class or work. I guess they just don’t know how dangerous their cars are. Well, I’ll show you.

First of all, you are sitting on top of 10-20 gallons of highly combustible fuel. If this explodes, you can kiss your rear goodbye (not to mention the rest of you). There is also the fact that you are sitting no more than a foot away from a pane of glass at all times. If that glass breaks, you are in for some serious cuts and other boo-boos.

Does that sound pleasant to you? Airbags and seat belts don’t protect you from shards of glass or flammable fuel. As if this isn’t enough danger, the only contact an average tire has with the road is no bigger than an average handprint. Common sense can see this as dangerous and possibly deadly.

Far too many people are killed in car accidents every year, yet cars have not been banned here at ISU. Something should be done about this serious breach in our safety!
