An Iowa State mechanical engineering assistant professor has earned international recognition for his work in the department.

Greg Luecke is a recipient of a faculty adviser award from the International Engineering Society for Advancing Mobility on Land, Sea, Air and Space.

In February, Luecke will be honored at the SAE International Congress and Exposition in Detroit.

His service includes four years of advising and promoting student activities such as the SAE Mini Baja Car and Mini Formula Car competitions, in which student groups design, build and test automobiles in national competitions with other universities.

In addition, Luecke is known internationally for his development of haptic devices used to interact with virtual reality environments.

According to a press release, Luecke has researched the ability to touch, feel and manipulate virtual objects for the past three years.

Luecke, who received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia, his master’s from Yale University and his doctoral from Pennsylvania State University, has been at ISU since 1992.
