The following information was provided by the Ames Police Department. All individuals are innocent unless proven guilty.
- Anthony Wayne Meyers, 26, 930 Bank St., Webster City, was arrested for driving under suspension, Dec. 12. He was later turned over to the Story County Sheriff’s Office.
- Peter D. Jourdan, 23, 3222 Lincoln Way, was arrested for public intoxication and criminal mischief, Dec. 13. He later plead guilty and was fined $180.
- Eric J. Jacobson, 24, 218 E. 7th St., was arrested on multiple warrants, Dec. 13. He was later released on $90 bond.
- Paul Steven Manhle, 21, 224 Ash, was arrested on a contempt of court warrant, Dec. 13. He was later released on $165 bond.
- Zachary A. Eickholt, 20, 703 Meadow Place, was arrested for driving under suspension, driving without a license, possession of alcohol under age, and having an open container of alcohol, Dec. 13. He was later released after posting $800 bond.
- Marc Alan Spolidoro, 24, 614 Portland Ave., St. Paul Minn., was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, Dec. 14. He was later released on $650 bond.
- Bryant James Marchese, 21, 4550 W. Solano Drive North, Glendale, Ariz., was arrested for public intoxication, Dec. 14. He was later released after paying a $90 fine.
- Joaquin E. Galindez, 26, 316 Lincoln Way #14, was arrested on a charge of simple domestic assault, Dec. 14. He was later released on 0% of $165 bond.
- Lara Christian Hidebrand, 25, 1006 S. Dayton Ave. #6, was arrested on multiple warrants, Dec. 15. He was later released on $300 bond.
- Olusegun Coker, 22, 1108 S. 4th St. #26, was arrested on multiple warrants, Dec. 15. He was later released on a judge’s order.
- Joshua R. Majors, 18, 221 S. Benton, Boone, was arrested for theft in the 5th degree and possession of a controlled substance, Dec. 16. He was later released on his own recognizance.
- Cameron N. Tuhn, 18, Boone, was arrested for theft in the fifth degree and possession of a controlled substance, Dec. 16. He was later released on his own recognizance.
- Darrin Jon Teiger, 27, 101 S. Wilmouth #3, was arrested on multiple parking warrants, Dec. 17. He was later released after paying a $50 fine.
- Margaret Lunt Edwards, 27, 1133 44th St. #4, Des Moines, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Dec. 17. He was later released on a judge’s order.
- Ted Kent Stotler, 42, 1879 Highland Pkwy, St. Paul, Minn., was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Dec. 17. He was later released by a bondsman.
- Saul Alverez, 26, 1400 Coconino #201, was arrested for driving under revocation, Dec. 17. He was later released on 0% of $1500.
- James D. Walton, 18, 224 Ash Ave., was arrested for public intoxication, Dec. 18. He was later released on a citation.
- Michile Lee Damme, 25, 420 E. 7th St., was arrested for theft in the fifth degree, Dec. 18. He was later released on $500 cash bond.
- Shannon S. Kozelski, 20, 6832 Adelman Lane, Des Moines, was arrested for minor on the premises, Dec. 19. He was later released on $165 bond.
- James Z. Allen, 18, 7302 Larch Hall, was arrested for harassment of a public official and public intoxication, Dec. 19. He was later released on a citation.
- Andres Avelar, 20, 3206 Lincoln Way, was arrested for minor on the premises, possession of alcohol underage and possession of false identification Dec. 19.
- Alexa Colby, 22, 4318 Maricopa, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Dec. 19. He was later released on a citation.
- Matthew Bergman, 19, 2866 Quill, Arthur, was arrested for reckless use of a firearm, aggravated assault and false report of information to a public authority, Dec. 19. He was turned over to the Story County Sheriff’s Office.
- Ross M. Larson, 30, 915 Duff #1, was arrested for his second offense of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Dec. 20. He was later released on a citation.
- Philip Brian Harriman, 27, P.O. Box 214, Gilbert, was arrested for public intoxication, Dec. 20. He was later released on a citation.
- Kerri Olsen, 35, 354 Elm, Story City, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and speeding, Dec 20. He was later released on a citation.
DPS Log
Dec. 12, 1997
- Iowa State Department of Public Safety stopped a vehicle at Lincoln Way and Knoll Road after an officer observed the vehicle speeding.
The officer administered field sobriety tests to the driver, Douglas James Mergen, after the officer noticed Mergen’s eyes being bloodshot and watery. The officer then administered a PBT which showed him to be over the .10 limit.
Mergen was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
- Linda Aspergren, E105 Lagomarcino Hall, reported that the Student Services Office had been burglarized sometime during the night, and that computer equipment and some other items were taken from room E105, E105-1, and E116. The amount of the theft is unknown at this time.
- Jon Rodenburg, 110 N. Kearney Road, Box 183, Oakland, Iowa, reported via fax that he had placed his wedding ring in his golf bag while he was at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course, and when he went to get the ring, it was gone. Estimated loss is $700.
- Property damage accident in Lot 75.
- Robert S. Hostetler, 2568 Helser Hall, reported that while his vehicle was parked in Lot S-2, someone broke out the driver side window and took the amplifier from the car. Estimated damage and loss is $115.
- Emily S. Barnes, 233 Grey Ave., reported that while her vehicle was parked in Lot S-2, someone broke the driver side window out, damaged the frame above the window, and scratched the paint. They also took the wheel and cap from the driver’s side and some money. Estimated loss and damage is $299.
- James Alan Henry, 2542 Helser Hall, reported that while his vehicle was parked in Lot S-2, someone broke into the vehicle and took his dome light and his CD player, and the heater module was broken. Estimated loss and damage is $210.
Dec. 13, 1997
- A Student Reserve Officer reported that the glass was cracked on the door on the west side of the Memorial Union.
Upon arrival of a DPS officer, the Student Reserve Officer pointed out a male who was intoxicated and had just knocked over a sign.
The officer made contact with Peter Daniel Jourdan, 3222 Lincoln Way #6. He was administered field sobriety tests, which he failed, and was placed under arrest for public intoxication and criminal mischief after he admitted to breaking the glass. Estimated damage is $95.
- A Student Reserve Officer reported that a subject left the Memorial Union ramp the wrong way and broke off the gate arm. ISUDPS officers and Ames Police Department stopped the vehicle at 24th Street and Grand Avenue.
The driver, Joshua Michael Finken, 407 Welch Ave., was cited for criminal mischief and not wearing a seat belt.
Dec. 14, 1997
- Micheal James Wilson, 117 Ash Ave., fell down and cut his head, ISUDPS assisted.
- Rick D. Terrill, 3679 Helser Hall, reported that while his vehicle was parked in Lot S-1, someone broke into his vehicle and took his AM/FM/CD player. His mirror, dash and dome light were also damaged.
Estimated loss and damage is $450.
Dec. 15, 1997
- A teaching assistant in Physics Hall reported receiving a threatening voice mail from an unknown male. The call came from an off-campus number.
- Todd Habick, 3500 2nd Ave., Des Moines, working security for the University Bookstore, observed a male conceal a textbook under his book bag and leave the store without paying for it. Habick confronted the suspect, Augustin Mendez Jr., 33B Schilletter Village, and recovered the textbook. An officer arrived and placed Mendez under arrest for theft in the fourth degree. Estimated value of the book is $101.25.
- Eric M. Fink, 3316 Birch Hall, reported that while his vehicle was parked in Lot S-1, someone let the air out of both passenger side tires, and the valve stems were missing. Estimated value of the tires and valve stems is $50.
Dec. 16, 1997
- General Services reported that the ground crew had found a bicycle at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Welch Ave. They brought the bike to DPS’ impound shed, where it will be kept until the owner claims it or is located. Estimated value of the bike is $50.
- Balsi Kasi, 2726 Buchanan Hall, reported that someone had put super glue in the door lock mechanisms of the kitchenettes on third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth floors in Buchanan Hall and in the custodial closets on sixth and ninth floors. Estimated damage is $560.
- Casi Balsy, Buchanan Hall, reported that Jon Joseph Hucker, 3128 Buchanan Hall, had two revolvers in his room. Officers spoke with Hucker, who said he usually keeps the guns at a residence off campus but had them in his room because he was going to take them home over break. Hucker removed the guns and placed them in his vehicle.
- DPS received a 911 call of a subject injured in the construction site near the Meat Lab and Kildee Hall. While workers were moving a 3,000-pound concrete block out of the elevator pit, the crane was too far out, which caused the concrete block to swing into Tom Gleim, 1006 Rail Road St., Grand Junction, Iowa injuring his left hip. He was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center.
- Todd Habick, Centurian Security, reported observing Jeremy L. Duer, 3209 Duff Ave. #2, place a textbook in his backpack and leave University Bookstore without paying for it. He stopped Duer and called DPS. Duer was charged with theft.
Dec. 17, 1997
- There was a personal injury accident between a pickup truck and a pedestrian at Wallace Road and Union Drive. Theresa Arnold, 3805 Stage Coach Road, received minor injuries.
- Moji Fasehun, 16C Schilletter Village, reported that while her vehicle was parked in the vehicle storage area, someone broke out the tail light lens. Estimated damage is $50.
- An altered parking permit was found in Lot S-1.
- There was a hit and run accident in Iowa State Center Lot C-5.
- Mohammad Khalifeh, 6A Schilletter Village, reported that he lost his wallet. He said he noticed it missing while he was at Parks Library. Estimated loss is $233.
- There was a hit and run accident in Lot B-5.
- Don Schlagel, 1144 Sweeney Hall, reported that some computer equipment was taken from the computer lab in room 1133 Sweeney Hall. Estimated loss is $105.
Dec. 18, 1997
- An ISUDPS officer noticed a vehicle in the ravine on the south side of the stadium. The driver of the vehicle was found at a fraternity at Lincoln Way and Beach Ave. The driver, Jon Richard Dereus, no address available, was placed under arrest and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
- DPS received complaints of a male yelling at people outside of Knapp Hall. Upon arrival, an officer found James David Welton, 224 Ash Ave. Welton had a strong odor of alcohol about his person. The officer administered field sobriety tests to Welton, which he failed. He was placed under arrest for public intoxication.
- Anthony W. Jefferson, 3211 30th St. #A-12, reported that while his vehicle was parked in the Memorial Union Ramp someone made two cuts in the rear window of his Jeep’s soft top, broke into his vehicle and took his stereo and speakers. Estimated loss and damage is $620.
- ISUDPS impounded a bicycle from Room 3312 Friley Hall.
Dec. 19, 1997
- Adam D. Sestina, 206 Helser Hall, reported the theft of 98 CDs from his unlocked room.
- Sarah A. Ware, 382 Linden Hall, reported that while her vehicle was parked in Lot 54, someone took the rear spoiler off the car. Estimated loss is $200.
- A vehicle registered to John Galbreath, 1515 Hutton St., Des Moines, was properly parked in a loading zone on Welch Ave. when it was struck by a second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle, Travis Edward Franke, 2007 Geneva, Sioux City, exited Lot 61 and did not see an unknown third vehicle going north on Welch Ave. He said he accelerated to miss the third vehicle and ran into the door of Galbreath’s vehicle. Estimated damage to Galbreath’s vehicle is $500. Estimated damage to Franke’s vehicle is $100.
- Steven Alan Anderson, 4441 Friley Hall, reported that while his vehicle was parked in Lot S-1, someone took the CD player. Estimated loss is $100.
- Maria Ann Fisk, 161 Linden Hall, reported that someone had damaged the screen to her residence. Estimated damage is $15.
- Jeremy M. Geiger, 3359 Friley Hall, reported that the Noble House vacuum was stolen from the floor.
Dec. 20, 1997
- Jay Sithambaram, Memorial Union Ramp employee, reported watching a vehicle back into the ramp gate arm. The driver of the vehicle, a pickup truck, had driven into the ramp, decided the ramp wasn’t tall enough for his truck and backed out, striking the gate arm that had come down behind him.
Dec. 21, 1997
- Theresa Kathryn Daniels, 4519 Friley Hall, reported that she had left her bicycle in the hallway outside of her room. She said that someone took the bike. Estimated loss is $300.
- Wang Dong, 3127 Buchanan Hall, reported that while his bicycle was parked in the bike rack, in front of Buchanan Hall, someone damaged the bike. The front tire on the bike was bent over. Estimated damage is $90.
Dec. 22, 1997
- DPS received a report that some lockers were broken into at the Power Plant.
- DPS received a report that someone broke into Carver 131.
Dec. 23, 1997
- ISUDPS stopped a vehicle in the 3200 block of Lincoln Way and arrested the driver, Christopher Jack Sandmeier, 118 S. Franklin Ave., for driving under the influence. While running a routine driver’s license check on Sandmeier, it showed him to be suspended. He had an unserved suspension, which DPS served him.
- A custodian reported finding two throwing knives in Agronomy Hall. DPS impounded the knives and placed them in their property room for safe keeping until the owner comes to claim them.
- A vehicle, driven by Paul Eugene Johnson, 31 N Ave., Nevada, Iowa, was stopped at the traffic light at Pammel Drive and Haber Road, when a semi driven by Curtis Andrew Mosell, 2746 Fleur Drive #203, Des Moines, turned off of Pammel Drive onto Haber Road, and struck Johnson’s vehicle as he made the turn. Estimated damage to Johnson’s vehicle is $500. No damage to the semi.
Dec. 27, 1997
- ISUDPS arrested Bryce Edward Wyble, 600 Poplar St. #C, Murray, Ky., for public intoxication after the officer observed him with two others in the middle of Welch Ave. One of the males was taking swings at the other two. The officer administered field sobriety tests to Wyble, which he failed.
Dec. 30, 1997
- Linda Zeller, 501 E. 4th St., Woodward, Iowa, reported that her cellular phone was missing. She said the last time she used the phone was on Tuesday. Estimated loss is $350.
Dec. 31, 1997
- DPS charged a juvenile male at the Durham Center with delinquency by criminal mischief and cited two other juvenile males with possession of tobacco under the legal age.
- Marlene R. Bauman, 310 Lab of Mechanics, reported that someone had tampered with the lock to her office. A red liquid substance had been placed in the lock. It is unknown what the substance was. No entrance was gained to the office.
