The Cardinal Key Honor Society, a notable honorary whose members include students and faculty at Iowa State, currently is undergoing its nomination process.

Michelle Moseman, president of the society, said Cardinal Key is ISU’s most selective honorary society and that membership is rewarded on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service and overall character.

“[The society is] really trying to get the most nominations we can because we believe in order to get the best leaders on campus, we have to have a large nomination pool,” Moseman said.

Eligible students and faculty are selected not only through nominations, they also can fill out membership applications or opt for an interview process.

The society aims to receive numerous nominees and has begun recruiting applicants, Moseman said.

She added that informational letters have been sent to fraternities and sororities, as well as to residence halls.

Moseman said nominations are limited to juniors and seniors with a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and the society accepts just one third of one percent of juniors and one half of one percent of seniors.

Matt Wiebers, senior in agricultural systems technology and vice president of selection for the honor society, said being a member is a great benefit to both ISU students and faculty.

He also said membership looks great to prospective employers.

“It’s a really respected honorary at Iowa State,” he said. “It really is a great achievement.”

Initiation for the Cardinal Key Honor Society will take place at a leadership banquet during the Sunday of Veishea weekend.

Applications for membership, due Jan. 30, are available in Room B6 of the Memorial Union in the Student Activities Office.

Students also may apply via the Cardinal Key Web page at www.public.iastate.edu/~stu_org/CardinalKey.
