Food service waste
January 27, 1998
We are concerned about the waste being produced by ISU Dining Services. Maple-Willow-Larch Dining Services justifies using paper serving products because of their “lack of employees.” Linden Dining Services has also advertised their shortage of employees; however they have dealt with this problem by implementing a self-serve buffet line. This line requires fewer servers and fewer dishwashers because students serve themselves using less dishes. Not only does the line require less staff, it also reduces wasted food by allowing students to choose the amount of food they need. Maple-Willow-Larch Dining Services should follow Linden’s example to prevent this waste. Concerned students should voice their opinion to management.
